Super Mario Galaxy Film Preview Arrives, Introducing Rosalina and Bowser Jr. Actors
Nintendo alongside Illumination unveiled the initial complete preview for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie midweek. The reveal happened in a special Nintendo Direct that centered on the upcoming animated film.
Following up on the 2023 hit film The Super Mario Bros. Movie, this fresh entry will transport Mario to the far corners of the universe. In his journey, he meets a different royal figure and a challenging new adversary in Bowser Jr., the offspring of the Koopa King.
An Interstellar Journey Drawing from Classic Games
In the vein of the Wii console classics that act as its source material, Mario will depart from the familiar comforts of the Mushroom Kingdom to explore outer space. Throughout his extensive trek, he will meet again some familiar faces, including the Luma, a popular character from the original cinematic release.
However, it seems Mario and his brother Luigi will face a fresh enemy in the form of Bowser's irate young son, who apparently commands metallic abilities. Interestingly, the trailer for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie is not only concentrated on Galaxy-themed scenes; it also contains hints to additional popular titles like Super Mario Odyssey and Bowser's Fury.
All-Star Vocal Ensemble Returns and Expands
The movie will see the return of the initial voice actors, with Chris Pratt as Mario, Anya Taylor-Joy as Peach, Charlie Day as Luigi, Jack Black as Bowser, Keegan-Michael Key as Toad, and Kevin Michael Richardson as Kamek.
Joining the cast for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie are Brie Larson, who will portray Rosalina, and Benny Safdie, set to represent Bowser Jr. This was confirmed by Chris Meledandri, the chief executive of Illumination.
A Significant Period for Mario
The upcoming Mario film is set to release close to the four-decade milestone of the first Super Mario Bros. title. In addition to the movie, 2026 promises to be a important time for Mario and his companions.
The company has a trio of new releases already confirmed for 2026, such as Mario Tennis Fever, a release on Switch 2 of Super Mario Bros. Wonder, and a fresh Yoshi side-scroller titled Yoshi and the Mysterious Book.

The Super Mario Galaxy Movie is officially set to be released on April 3, 2026.
