Approximately fifty vehicles have been smeared with what appears to be blood from a person in the Germany's municipality of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, as reported by police.
Automobiles, building surfaces and postboxes were defaced, in some cases with Nazi symbols, they stated in a statement.
Officers state they were alerted late on Wednesday, when a resident noticed that a car in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been covered with a reddish-hued fluid.
The liquid had been applied in the shape of a banned symbol, they reported.
Officers then found numerous other marked automobiles and house walls in the surrounding area.
These symbols are banned in Germany under regulations banning the public display of symbols from the Nazi era.
Officials state early analysis show the fluid was probably human blood.
"Currently there is no indication as to its source; authorities are not yet aware of any physical harm in relation with the event," they stated.
Local authorities stated they were working "to solve the incident" and have requested to the community for tips.
A senior political figure commented the attack made him speechless and needed to be resolved rapidly.
"This event affects the core of Hanau and reopens the trauma of the right-wing terrorist attack five years ago," he posted on online, recalling the killing of nine people by a shooter targeting residents of immigrant origin in February 2020.
